Operations Supervisor

Job Title: Operations Supervisor


Main Function:

This position shares accountability for formulating and achieving the facility's short-term/long-term operational plans and ensuring that products and components are manufactured and shipped on-time. This position coordinates functional support and plant resources to assure that all production goals are met across all shifts. The incumbent will facilitate employee training, ensure that safe work practices are in place and administer the labor agreement as required.

  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Coordinate all work and provide needed resources and supplies for the shift; ensure production requirements are consistently met through optimization of personnel and productivity.
  • Interface with other Plant employees providing the necessary materials, resources and service for the operation to meet requirements (i.e., quality, safety and schedules).
  • Understand and maintain all TS 16949 and Company quality standards and procedures.
  • Optimize efficiency and labor costs by analyzing work output and downtime and coordinating the scheduling of line changeovers, repairs and reworks.
  • Organize and maintain organizational records, forms, files, reports, process sheets and all other employee and production information as required.
  • Promote safety and perform safety training and awareness with Plant employees.
  • Respond to collective bargaining issues in a timely manner as stated in the contract.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles on a daily basis to maximize productivity; actively support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Initiate continuous improvements to reduce cost, inventory and increase throughout.
  • Maintain department to 5S standards.
  • Promote-employee-morale and open communications within, and across, all shifts.
  • Ensure comprehensive safety and environmental program compliance within assigned department(s).

 

Education, Training & Work Experience Requirements:

This position requires an individual with fundamental knowledge of the work practices at the Plant. Therefore, the successful candidate must have:

  • An associate's degree in a technical discipline desired (BS preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years supervisory experience in manufacturing; previous union experience desired.
  • Hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes; previous automotive, CNC Machining and/or forging experience desired (programming experience a definite plus).
  • Experience in a TS 16949 Quality System environment.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma training desirable.
  • Practical understanding of safe operating principles and OSHA regulations.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact with all employee populations.
  • Extensive knowledge of product line and manufacturing processes to determine equipment, material and manpower needs and to develop and coordinate production processes and schedules.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to collect, organize and interpret data and develop recommendations.
